Freedom
Very often people are faced with choices and decisions that they need to make. One way or the other they make a decision that they feel would be most advantageous to them. As an immigrant an interesting question that comes up is, what reason should you give for the decision to stay in a far and foreign land and finally pledge allegiance to it. If people make the decision out of "no choice" then there is nothing other than mere compulsion to justify their decision. But what if the allegiance is out of conviction? Often the founding principles of western civilization that are exalted are the concepts of freedom and liberty which I believe are highly misunderstood. Is it unrestrained freedom in terms of one's action that characterizes a civilization. Then from my experience it is a weaker civilization and often results in a sick society. If the unrestrained freedom on its own convince people to be bound by a set of rules, It becomes the defining moment of the noble principle of freedom. The reason is from the experience that the mind is more often satisfied with obligations that are compulsory in nature, often perhaps bounded by religious rules, or societal norms in terms of relationships. More often things that people do out of these are more enjoyable in nature than things that are done by the whims of desires and passions which are often imitations of the contents of media. So If freedom can be realized in a land where that freedom allows me to bind myself to a set of rules that can bring harmony and peace to both myself and the society in general and the world, I would have found the meaning of true freedom.
