Improving Capacity

Teaching has been regarded in Indian culture as a great honor and teachers were equated to God in the tradition. I completely agree with the notion that teachers have the power to shape minds. But some of that influence can end up being dangerous.

We have an Operations course this semester at the business school, and Professor Terry Taylor is a remarkable guy. He exemplifies the subject he teaches and makes learning really easy. Someone warned me before the start of the semester that I had very dry subjects this semseter, the other one being Finance. Kudos to Professor Taylor in bringing the class alive as soon as he steps in.

But trying to imitate the master can be dangerous for a novice. It has been my routine to crash to my bed as soon as I reach home after 8 straight hours of class every saturday. But last week, due to the radiant energy from professor Taylor, I tried to be reduce the variability of standing in a queue on sunday by doing a late saturday everning shopping. I usually do my shopping on Sunday, and sundays are quite crowded in every shopping outlets in the bay area. I went to Walmart, bought the required supplies as per their correct economic order quantity, and loaded them into the trunk. Then I realized that I can manage the inventory better if I organized them properly within the trunk. Once I was done and locked the trunk, I was proud and amazed by the utilization rate I have achieved on a saturday evening.

I moved back the shopping cart and headed towards the car. Suddenly, I realized that I have locked me and my poor kid by keeping the key's inside the trunk while managing the inventory. To conclude the story, I ended up spening two hours in the Walmart parking lot trying to negotiate with friends on a Saturday night to bring me the spare car key from my home.
